Everyone in my genre is painting whimsical girls, they are all doing the same adorable cocked head female figure in a mixed media dreamlike setting. And so, I refrain from doing the same. Not wanting to follow someone elses lead and refrain. I Keep myself from being like others... even though I crave to paint some characters I can't help but be inspired by what I see. After all, I've been drawing sweet girls since highschool... delightful doodles on the side margins of my lined binder page.
What does an artist do when something they've done forever goes mainstream?
Paints one anyways. Or two, and hopes that it doesn't look like everyone elses.
